This was the only constant refusal
from my wife while in Japan.
Tattooed persons were visually marked as Yakuza
and maybe bared from entering public bathes,
and sometime shops or restaurants.
Once we arrived in France, she changed her mind,
but I was no more interested due to
tattoos becoming a fashion on one side
and that couldn't find any artist of such level
pushing ink in the traditional painful way.
